When a cooling fan fails, the immediate goal is to get the equipment running again. Ordering from a photo alone can create another delay if the replacement has a different connector, mounting depth, or electrical rating.
Build a short replacement record before requesting a quote. It helps your supplier identify the part and gives your maintenance or engineering team a clear basis for approval.
Capture the complete model number
Take a clear photo of the label and record the brand, full model number, suffix, voltage, and any equipment-specific part number. Photograph the front, back, side, and connector. If the label is damaged, include the equipment manufacturer and assembly reference.
Suffixes can distinguish versions within the same product family. Keep them in every inquiry, purchase order, and approval record rather than shortening the part number.
Measure the installation rather than guessing the size
Record the frame width, height, depth, and mounting hole spacing. For round fans or centrifugal assemblies, include the mounting arrangement and available clearance. Check whether a guard, bracket, or inlet component must be reused.
Note the installed airflow direction and the orientation of the wiring. A replacement that requires a new bracket or cable adapter should be reviewed as a configuration change.
Check electrical and control compatibility
Compare AC or DC supply type, rated voltage, current, and AC frequency where applicable. For equipment on a 60 Hz supply, confirm that rating on the proposed model documentation.
If the equipment monitors fan speed or controls it through PWM, obtain the exact signal specification. PWM is a control input; speed feedback is a separate function. Verify pin assignments and the model’s behavior when the control signal is absent. Wire colors alone are not enough to identify the interface.
Review the proposed replacement point by point
• Identity — Full model, suffix, drawing revision, and product condition
• Mechanical fit — Frame, depth, hole pattern, brackets, and airflow direction
• Electrical fit — Supply type, voltage, frequency, and current requirements
• Connection — Connector, pinout, cable length, and signal interface
• Application fit — Thermal performance, noise, temperature range, and required documentation
Make the replacement approval explicit
Ask whether the quote covers the exact requested part or a proposed alternative. If it is an alternative, request a written list of differences and a drawing before purchase. A similar appearance or a matching voltage is insufficient evidence of interchangeability.
Have the equipment owner or responsible engineer approve any deviation. After installation, check operating temperatures, fan monitoring, vibration, and noise under representative conditions. Keep the approved model and results with the maintenance record.
Send a complete replacement inquiry
WEIKEHENG provides model matching support across multiple fan brands. Include the full part number, quantity, destination, and required delivery date. Mention the label photos and drawings available for review, or send them by email.
